Australia crowned Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 champions with seven-wicket victory

Australia won the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 final, defeating England by seven wickets on Sunday at Lord’s Cricket Ground. A record crowd of over 28,000 watched the Australians chase down England’s 150/4 with a score of 153/3 in just 17.1 overs.

Beth Mooney anchored the chase with a composed 64 off 49 balls—her third half-century in a T20 World Cup final, following fifties in 2020 and 2023. Phoebe Litchfield contributed 48 off 35 balls. The two combined for a 100-run stand off 67 balls. Australia’s powerplay was explosive—they raced to 62/1—before Mooney fell leg before wicket to Sophie Ecclestone. Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner then guided Australia across the finish line.

That 153-run chase is the highest successful run chase in Women’s T20 World Cup final history. On the bowling side, Australia was equally sharp. Kim Garth, Lucy Hamilton, Annabel Sutherland and Sophie Molineux each claimed a wicket, with Hamilton claiming her first T20 World Cup wicket by dismissing Amy Jones.

England had arrived at Lord’s undefeated, with six wins from six group matches. Nat Sciver-Brunt, returning after missing three group stage matches with a calf injury, scored a fighting 58 off 53 balls, while Freya Kemp hit 44 off 28 balls. The two put on an 80-run unbeaten stand off 55 balls, yet it wasn’t quite enough. Danni Wyatt-Hodge, the tournament’s leading run scorer, couldn’t replicate the form that defined her group stage.

This is Australia’s seventh T20 World Cup title and their 14th women’s World Cup title overall. It marks their return to the summit of T20 cricket after three years.
