Naomi Osaka pulled off a stunning upset on Day 7 of Wimbledon 2026, defeating Aryna Sabalenka 6-2, 7-6(2) in the fourth round. The loss stung for Sabalenka, a four-time Grand Slam champion with titles at the U.S. Open and Australian Open. After reaching the Wimbledon semifinals last year, she exited this year in the fourth round.
Osaka will meet Karolína Muchová in the quarterfinals. Muchová earned her spot by topping Barbora Krejčíková 7-5, 5-7, 6-3. After four consecutive first-round exits at Wimbledon before 2026, Muchová has now made the quarterfinal stage for the third time in her career—previously in 2019 and 2021,.
The men’s draw produced a memorable result: 36-year-old Jan-Lennard Struff reached his first Grand Slam quarterfinal. Hubert Hurkacz retired injured while trailing 2-4 in the fifth set, giving Struff a 6-3, 7-6(5), 6-7(2), 5-7 victory,. Next up for Struff is world No. 1 Jannik Sinner.
Félix Auger-Aliassime outlasted Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in a brutal five-setter, 6-7(4), 7-6(6), 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-1. One rally stood out: a 14-shot exchange that had the crowd on its feet. Davidovich Fokina picked up an acute left ankle injury during the match. Auger-Aliassime’s next opponent is Novak Djokovic.
Djokovic dispatched Roman Safiullin 7-6(6), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in straight sets. Sinner, the world No. 1, cruised past Shintaro Mochizuki 6-3, 7-6(0), 6-3.
Coco Gauff claimed her first Wimbledon quarterfinal berth, beating Belinda Bencic 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. She faces Jessica Pegula, who advanced with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Iva Jović,.
Off court, Auger-Aliassime took aim at a rule allowing players to call a physio during an opponent’s service game. “If you’re hurt bad, or whatever you’re hurt, while the game’s going on of your opponent, in the middle of the game, the opponent is serving, the shot clock is on? Basically, when you’re hurt bad, you’re forfeiting every point until you can call the physio,” he said. “But to stop in the middle of an opponent’s service game and to be able to call the physio, I think that’s a disgrace of a rule.”
