Real Madrid commits to Euroleague with ten-year extension, spurns NBA Europe

Real Madrid Basketball has locked in a ten-year extension with the Euroleague, doubling down on its place in Europe’s premier basketball competition. The club has also turned down entry into the NBA Europe project.

The Euroleague board meets Friday, June 26, 2026, to ratify the renewal. Assembly approval is expected in the first half of July 2026.

Real Madrid’s move follows a season that saw the club reach the Euroleague Final, only to lose to Olympiakos in the championship match. The ten-year commitment signals the club’s faith in the continental competition, even as the NBA expansion opportunity loomed large.

The Euroleague itself is undergoing change. Twenty teams will compete across a 38-round regular season. Besiktas is coming in to replace AS Monaco, which drops down to the Eurocup.
