Kate Returns to Wimbledon as Patron, Greets Fans Before Second-Round Match

Kate, the Princess of Wales, spent Thursday meeting tennis fans at Wimbledon’s Queue before settling in for a second-round match featuring British player Arthur Fery. It was a meaningful return for the royal patron of the All England Club, who shared news of her cancer remission early last year.

The day was packed with direct engagement. Kate staffed a ticket office and met with children from Shine Camera Club, a local initiative serving young people from underserved communities. These weren’t ceremonial moments—they showed what her patronage actually means beyond the trophy presentations.

Her connection to Wimbledon has deepened over time. Last year, she was at Centre Court on back-to-back days presenting the singles trophies to champions Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner. A year earlier, she’d spoken with women’s runner-up Amanda Anisimova following her 6-0, 6-0 loss to Swiatek.

Cancer treatment kept her away from the women’s final last year, but she made it to Carlos Alcaraz’s victory over Novak Djokovic. On Thursday, Fery took on Finland’s Otto Virtanen on Court 18.
