Muchová defeats Gauff in epic tiebreak to reach first Wimbledon final

Karolína Muchová defeated Coco Gauff 6-2, 1-6, 7-6(12-10) in the Wimbledon semifinal, advancing to her second Grand Slam final and first at Wimbledon. The 29-year-old Czech player will meet 21-year-old Linda Nosková on Saturday in an all-Czech final.

Thursday’s Centre Court match unfolded in sweltering heat—temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit—with Muchová’s serve proving the decisive weapon. She won a tiebreak that stretched to 12-10. Gauff, a two-time Grand Slam champion, had beaten Muchová six times in their seven previous meetings, but the No. 10 seed finally broke that pattern.

Muchová dismantled the first set in 39 minutes, a performance that looked destined to end in straight sets. Then Gauff, 22 years old, seized the second set decisively. The third set became a different match altogether—a test of nerve, precision, and will.

The tiebreak turned on small moments. At 8-8, Muchová took a time violation on her serve. Gauff earned match point at 9-8 while serving, but Muchová held firm and converted her opportunity to claim victory. Her serve had been her engine throughout the tournament: 36 aces, second only to Naomi Osaka’s 37, and a 79 percent win rate off her first serve.

This victory marks a stunning return to form for Muchová. Before this year, she hadn’t won at Wimbledon since reaching the quarterfinal in 2021. She won the Bad Homburg Tennis Open in Germany earlier in 2026 and knocked out Barbora Krejčíková, the 2024 Wimbledon champion, in the fourth round.

For Gauff, the loss ended her strongest Wimbledon campaign yet. She had never advanced past the fourth round until now, having first reached that stage in her debut in 2019 before falling in the first round in 2023 and 2025. Despite leading the WTA in three-set victories this year, she couldn’t close out another on Thursday.
