Late drama costs Ireland in penultimate FIH Hockey Pro League match

Can Ireland bounce back from a late collapse? They’ll get their answer on Friday night when the women’s hockey team takes on China in their final FIH Hockey Pro League match.

That moment of hope didn’t last. Germany regained the lead from a penalty corner, and as the match tightened, Caoimhe Perdue received a red card in the final minute. With Ireland down to ten players, Germany scored into the empty net with just over 60 seconds remaining, sealing a 3-1 win that ended any hopes of a comeback.

The loss leaves Ireland in a tight spot. They’re currently bottom of the table after England’s surprise draw with Argentina netted an extra point, and in their first FIH Hockey Pro League season, they simply must win their final match to avoid finishing last.
