2026 U-19 EURO Finals: Wales Hosts Historic Championship

Can Wales’ young squad recover from a crushing opening defeat? The 2026 UEFA European Under-19 Championship finals are being held in Wales for the first time, but the hosts face a steep climb after losing 0-7 to Spain in Wrexham on 28 June.

The tournament spans July across four Welsh venues: Bangor City Stadium, The Oval in Caernarfon, Central Park in Denbigh, and The Racecourse Ground in Wrexham. Eight teams split into two groups of four, with something much bigger on the line than a European trophy alone. This U-19 EURO serves as UEFA’s pathway to the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.

Group A features Wales (hosts), Denmark, Germany, and Spain. Spain’s rout of Wales set an early marker. On the same day, Germany beat Denmark 4-3 in Denbigh—a pulsating match that underlined the attacking firepower in this tournament. Group B brings together Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and Ukraine. Italy edged Serbia 2-0 in Caernarfon on 29 June, while Ukraine handed Croatia a 3-1 loss in Bangor the same evening.

Matchday two carries real weight. Denmark meets Spain on 1 July at 19:00 in Denbigh, with Wales taking on Germany at 21:00 in Wrexham. The next day—2 July—Croatia face Italy at 15:00 in Caernarfon, and Serbia clash with Ukraine at 19:00 in Bangor.

The final group matches on 4–5 July decide who moves forward. Denmark and Wales meet on 4 July at 15:00 in Wrexham, while Spain take Germany at the same time in Denbigh. Serbia vs Croatia kicks off on 5 July at 17:00 in Caernarfon, followed by Ukraine vs Italy at 17:00 in Bangor.

Path to the World Cup

Four semi-finalists earn spots at the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup, plus the winner of a play-off held in Bangor on 8 July. Azerbaijan will represent UEFA as co-host at the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup. The semi-finals take place 8 July: SF1 (Winners Group A vs Runners-up Group B) at 17:30 in Denbigh, and SF2 (Winners Group B vs Runners-up Group A) at 20:00 in Wrexham. The U-20 World Cup play-off—third place Group A against third place Group B—runs at 15:00 in Bangor that same day.

The final crowns the European champions on 11 July at 20:00 in Wrexham, securing their ticket to Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
