Carrillo Steps Into Kickboxing Ring Against Zhou at ONE Fight Night 46

Nico Carrillo walks into Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on Friday, August 14—but not as the Muay Thai fighter his fans know. The Scottish striker, who holds the ONE Interim Featherweight Muay Thai World Championship, is switching to kickboxing for his ONE Championship debut, facing Chinese opponent Zhou Jiaqiang.

At 27, Carrillo brings serious credentials to the switch. His record reads 30-4 with 16 finishes, and he’s posted a 7-1 mark inside ONE Championship. He trains at Deachkalek Muay Thai Academy, the place where he built the striking skills that now carry into kickboxing.

His climb through ONE’s ranks tells a story of knockout power. He beat former ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion Nong-O Hama and Saemapetch Fairtex. He also stopped Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong and Luke ‘The Chef’ Lessei by knockout. In February at ONE Fight Night 40, he defeated Shadow Mavinn to win the interim featherweight title.

The road wasn’t without setbacks. Carrillo fell to Nabil Anane by TKO in an interim title shot, yet earlier in his ONE run, he earned a US$100,000 main roster contract after knocking out Furkan Karabag and Muangthai PK Saenchai.

ONE Fight Night 46 streams on Prime Video during U.S. primetime, putting Carrillo’s kickboxing bow in front of a worldwide audience.
