Maresca appointed Manchester City manager to replace Guardiola

Who steps into Manchester City’s shoes after a decade under Pep Guardiola? Enzo Maresca. The 46-year-old has been appointed Manchester City manager to succeed Guardiola, who stepped down after a decade in charge.

Maresca has signed a three-year contract. He left Chelsea mid-season, with the club receiving approximately £17 million ($22.5 million) in compensation.

There’s a familiar thread running through this appointment. Maresca previously coached Manchester City’s youth team and was senior assistant under Guardiola during the 2018-19 treble-winning season. City held confidential talks with Maresca while he was still employed at Chelsea.

His managerial journey has been far from straightforward. It started at Parma in 2021 with just 14 games and four wins. He then took Leicester City’s reins at the start of the 2023-24 Championship season, steering them back to the Premier League as champions.

That success led to Chelsea. Over 18 months at Stamford Bridge, Maresca achieved a fourth-place finish, won the Conference League, and lifted the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. He left in December 2025.

Guardiola, now 55, announced his own departure in May. The Spaniard’s decade delivered six Premier League titles, one Champions League trophy, and League Cup and FA Cup wins in his final season.
