Tammy Beaumont to retire from international cricket after England’s Test against India

England play India at Lord’s over four days starting Friday. The match marks a historic milestone: the first women’s Test ever held at Lord’s. For Tammy Beaumont, it will be her final international appearance—she’s announced her retirement from international cricket after the match.

At 35, Beaumont has been playing since 2009, a career spanning nearly 17 years that transformed women’s cricket in England. She’s played 260 times across all formats and scored 14 international hundreds—12 of them in ODIs, which stands as an England women’s record.

The turning point came in 2016 when Heather Knight promoted her to open the batting. It worked. Just a year later, Beaumont helped England win the 2017 World Cup on home soil, topping the tournament’s run-scoring charts.

Accolades piled up. Wisden named her one of their Cricketers of the Year in 2019. More recently, she set a record that may never be broken: her 208 against Australia in the 2023 Ashes remains the highest Test score by an Englishwoman.

Only two English women have scored international centuries in all three formats. Beaumont is one; Heather Knight is the other. That said, she won’t vanish from cricket entirely. She’ll keep playing domestic cricket for the Blaze and Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred.
